NAPERVILLE, IL – Prosecutors have charged a Warrenville man for his role in a fatal car accident that happened on I-88 on Saturday night.
The Daily Herald reports that the crash happened in the highway’s westbound lanes near Winfield Road shortly after 10:10 p.m. on Saturday, July 4.
Authorities say the chain-reaction crash started when a Buick Envista hit the back of a Honda, pushing it off to the right. The heavily damaged Buick came to a rest in the right lane.
A Subaru subsequently crashed into a Hyundai and the Buick.
The Hyundai’s driver died in the crash. She has been identified as Julissa Miranda, 27.
Police arrested the Subaru’s driver, 35-year-old Vincent M. Buttimer of Warrenville. Prosecutors say he was going 85 mph just prior to the crash and that he was on his way back from Summerfest in Milwaukee. Buttimer registered a 0.095% BAC 90 minutes after the crash. They charged him with several violations, including felony aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol — causing death.
Prosecutors also charged the Buick’s driver with misdemeanor driving under the influence.
