HAMPSHIRE, IL – A 27-year-old woman from Pinegrove was killed in a hit-and-run collision that occurred on U.S. 20 on Monday, NBCChicago reports.
The incident occurred before 1 a.m. north of Harmony Road. A person driving an unspecified vehicle struck the Pinegrove woman before fleeing the scene prior to Hampshire Police’s arrival.
Officials declared the woman dead at the scene. They did not specify whether she was a vehicle driver/passenger or pedestrian, nor have they released her name.
Authorities closed U.S. 20 between Big Timber and Higgins Roads for several hours for the investigation process. At the time of the reporting, crews told drivers passing through to expect traffic delays as they worked to restore safe road conditions.
Hampshire Police, Kane County Major Crimes Task Force, and Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team all responded to the scene together and are working to piece together the events that led to the crash.
