GENOA, IL – A truck driver was hospitalized yesterday afternoon after he drove through a stop sign and collided with an SUV at an intersection in Genoa, WIFR reports.
The crash happened at Illinois Route 72 and Illinois Route 23 at about 1:30 p.m. on May 7.
Authorities say John Dare, 71, ran a stop sign, nearly collided with a cement truck, and then swerved into a Ford Explorer that was waiting to make a turn. The truck hit the Ford on its driver’s side and then drove into a nearby ditch.
Emergency responders took Dare to Kishwaukee Community Hospital with unspecified injuries.
They also treated the SUV’s occupants at the scene. They declined transport to an area hospital.
Police cited Dare for failure to yield at a stop intersection.
