3 injured in 4-vehicle collision west of downtown Joliet, IL

JOLIET, IL – Emergency responders rushed three people to St. Joseph Medical Center following a four-vehicle crash late yesterday afternoon.

Patch reports that the Joliet Fire Department arrived at the scene of a four-vehicle collision at the intersection of Black Road and Essington Road shortly before 4:20 p.m. yesterday.

One of the vehicles had overturned multiple times before settling on its roof, its engine on fire. Luckily, an off-duty firefighter witnessed the crash and was able to pull the woman driving the car from the vehicle.

On-duty firefighters with Engine 5 extricated another person from a second vehicle.

Three people were hospitalized at St. Joseph Medical Center. We do not know their conditions at this time.

Police kept the intersection closed for several hours to aid in the emergency response and subsequent investigation.
