Woman dies in early morning crash on Interstate 55 in Channahon

CHANNAHON, IL – A Bourbonnais woman died after a two-vehicle crash early Sunday on Interstate 55, authorities said.

According to ABC 7, Illinois State Police responded just before 3:15 a.m. to the crash in the southbound lanes near mile marker 246. Both drivers were taken to area hospitals after the collision.

The Will County Coroner’s Office identified the woman who died as Melissa Prosser, 26. Officials said she died at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Joliet.

Police said the other driver suffered injuries and went to a hospital, but did not release additional information about their condition.

The crash shut down all southbound lanes until about 8:40 a.m.

Investigators have not said what caused the collision. State police continue to investigate.
