JOLIET, IL – A driver died Monday afternoon after a single-vehicle crash in a construction zone on Interstate 80 in Joliet, Illinois State Police said.
Fox 32 reports that troopers responded just after 2:30 p.m. to the eastbound lanes of I-80 near Chicago Street. State police said the vehicle struck a concrete barrier in the work zone.
Emergency crews took the driver to a local hospital, where the person later died. Authorities had not released the driver’s name by Monday afternoon.
Investigators have not said what preceded the crash.
Police closed all eastbound lanes at Larkin Avenue at about 3:45 p.m. while officers investigated. All lanes were later reopened.
State police are investigating the crash.
