Driver charged with aggravated DUI following fatal crash on IL-83 in DuPage Co.

DUPAGE CO., IL – A man has been charged with aggravated DUI for his part in a fatal collision that took place in unincorporated Bensenville early Friday morning.

The incident may have been the one we previously reported on that afternoon.

CBS News reports that sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a fatal collision on IL-83/Kingery Highway north of I-290/The Eisenhower Expressway at about 5 a.m. on April 17.

Their investigation determined that a 2002 Buick LeSabre was traveling against traffic in the highway’s southbound lanes when it collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle.

Two people in the other vehicle were injured in the crash. One has subsequently died. He has been identified as Michele Lavorata.

Police administered an alcohol test to the Buick’s driver, who they identified as 22-year-old Zion Turrubiates-Andrade.Turrubiates-Andrade registered a 0.253 BAC, three times the legal limit, and now faces three counts of aggravated DUI.

A judge ordered that he remain in jail pending trial. His next court date has been set for May 18.
