AURORA, IL – A 30-year-old man was charged with DUI in connection with a crash that killed a 23-year-old woman last Saturday, July 11.

Kane County officials told the Patch that the 30-year-old man was identified as Irven Pinedo, an Aurora local.

Pinedo was charged with five counts of aggravated driving under the influence causing death, an additional five counts of aggravated driving under the influence – third violation, reckless homicide, and Aggravated Unlawful use of a weapon.

Pinedo was also given a misdemeanor and several petty offense citations, which include one count of failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and three counts of driving under the influence.

The Back Story

The incident occurred at Butterfield and Church Roads. Pinedo was driving a gray Toyota pickup truck on an eastbound lane when he crashed into a blue Hyundai sedan. Police said the sedan driver, a 23-year-old woman, was driving west on Butterfield and tried to turn left onto southbound Church Road when the collision took place.

EMS crews rushed the young woman to Mercy Medical Center, where she later died. Ambulance personnel took Pinedo to a separate hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office has not released the female driver’s name and has conducted an autopsy to determine the factors leading to her death.
