JOLIET, IL – One person died and another was injured in a multi-vehicle crash that happened on I-55 early Sunday morning.
WJOL reports that the crash happened shortly before 5:15 a.m. on April 26.
Authorities say that three vehicles collided in the interstate’s southbound lanes close to Black Road. Responders declared one person dead at the scene and transported another to an area hospital with unspecified injuries.
The Will County coroner identified the deceased as Jose A. Perez, a 21-year-old resident of Shorewood.
The wreck shut down traffic in the area for more than six hours. Police diverted traffic onto Route 30 until the southbound lanes were eventually reopened at about 11:20 a.m.
