What Is The Difference Between A Police Report, A Motorist Report And A Driver Information Exchange?

Illinois Traffic Crash Report, AKA Police Report

A police report is entitled the Illinois traffic crash report and is authored by the police officer who responded to the crash. It will contain the name and contact information of all the drivers; insurance information for all vehicles; information about the road conditions, lighting, weather, impact, property damage and witnesses; and a narrative report based on observations and statements from the drivers and witnesses. The Illinois traffic crash report will also contain a drawing of the crash.

Motorist Report

A motorist report will be filled out by the drivers involved in the crash and sent to the state of Illinois to track accident statistics.

Driver Information Exchange

A driver information exchange is typically what is handed to the drivers involved in the crash before the officer leaves the scene. It will contain contact information for the drivers involved as well as insurance information.
