Man charged with DUI in crash that killed teen dirt bike rider in Joliet 

JOLIET, IL – A man was charged with aggravated DUI and battery after causing a crash that killed a 17-year-old teenager riding a dirt bike. 

ABC7Chicago said the crash occurred before 8:45 p.m. on Monday at the intersection of West Jefferson Street and North Hickory Street. 

Eyewitnesses told Joliet Police and the Will County Coroner’s Office that a Chevrolet Impala driver, later identified as 38-year-old Maxie Robinson, was going north on Hickory when he crashed into the 17-year-old teenager riding a dirt bike on eastbound Jefferson. Police then said Robinson struck a parked vehicle on Hickory Street. 

Other findings reveal the teenager had proceeded through the intersection on a red light when he collided with Robinson’s car, while two other dirt bike riders, with the teenager, had stopped at the intersection. Based on this testimony, police have reason to believe Robinson had gone through the intersection on a green light. 

The teenager was thrown from his bike after getting hit by a car and unfortunately died from his injuries at the scene. 

After the crash, Robinson had also reportedly physically assaulted the other dirt bike riders, leaving them with unspecified injuries. 

Police shut down the area temporarily for the on-scene investigation and, during that period, discovered open bottles of alcohol in Robinson’s car and conducted field sobriety tests on him. 

A short time later, police took Robinson into custody, and he is now being held in Will County Jail.
