ST. CHARLES, IL – A driver who struck a motorcyclist on April 1 and fled the scene has now been identified and faces multiple felony charges.
According to a report from WGN, the collision occurred around 10:50 p.m. last Wednesday at the intersection of Country Club Road and North 5th Avenue. Responding officers reported that an eyewitness believed the driver of an SUV was involved but didn’t remain at the scene.
The motorcyclist, a 27-year-old Elgin man, was transported to an area hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
The alleged driver of the SUV was Morgan Mroz, 29, of West Chicago. The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged Mroz with reckless homicide, failure to report a crash resulting in death, aggravated driving under the influence resulting in death, and possession of a controlled substance. Mroz also received multiple traffic citations.
The St. Charles Police Department is asking anyone with information about the accident to contact them.
